COMPLETE RESULTS

October 28
Now in its 12th year, the Mayor’s Cup became regarded as the premier hill-and-dale event on the East Coast for club runners. This year’s race drew 659 finishers: a dramatic increase from the nine runners who finished the inaugural Mayor’s Cup race run in 1990. The men’s 8k was close with only three seconds separating the first three finishers. Sandu Rebenciuc, representing the US Army, broke a five-year Kenyan and Life University winning streak, claiming victory in 23:29. Irishman Vinny Mulvey, 23, finished one second behind Rebenciuc (23:30) to take second place. Mulvey’s former Iona College teammate Graeme Reid rounded out the trio, crossing the finish line third in 23:32. In the men’s team competition, Boston Athletic Association came out on top with 92 total points. Indiana Invaders’ Priscilla Hein was victorious in the women’s 5k. Hein finished in 16:30, just missing the 1997 meet record by eight seconds. Sarah Hann, of the Greater Lowell Road Runners, was the runner-up, posting a time of 16:34. Marie Davenport (nee McMahon) finished third in 16:50. Among the field of 12 teams, the Indiana Invaders, led by Hein and fifth-place finisher Kelly French, took the women’s team title with 63 total points narrowly defeating the previous year’s champions, host club Boston Athletic Association, which finished a close second with 66 points.

318 male finishers.
146 female finishers.
195 youth finishers.
